Mason City led 11-1 in the seventh — seeking to become the fourth 10-run 4A winner of the day — before Ankeny pushed across three runs in the bottom of the seventh. The Mohawks (36-6) will play sixth-ranked Cedar Rapids Kennedy (30-10) in Friday night’s semifinals. Mason City starter Brandon Platts picked up the win, improving his record to 10-0. He went 5.1 innings, allowing two hits, one run and striking out five. The Hawks’ Andrew Hedrick — the 4A tournament strikeout leader and also the owner of a 0.66 earned-run average — took the loss and fell to 9-2. He went six innings, allowed seven hits, four runs — two earned — and struck out nine. Mason City took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an error, a hit batter and a two-out, two-run double by Aaron Overbeck. The Mohawks threatened in the second inning on an error, a wild pitch and a single.
