Davenport Central vs. West Des Moines Dowling July 27, 2011 Box Score | Play-by-play The top-seeded Dowling Catholic Maroons took care of business in dispatching of the eight-seeded Davenport Central Blue Devils 7-1 in a 4A quarterfinals matchup Wednesday at Principal Park. Dowling (34-7) plated the game’s first runs when Connor Bravard floated a two-run two-out single into left-center field. The Maroons did not look back from there as starting pitcher Brad Challeen was solid. After a two-out double by Nate Rauch, David Mampre singled to drive in the only run of the game for Central off of Challeen. Challeen (7-1) completed five innings and struck out two batters. He walked two and allowed five hits. Dolton Parrott added a third inning RBI-single for Dowling before they blew open the game in the fourth frame. The first four Maroons of the innings reached bases and ended up scoring. The first run scored on a Central error when Cody Hanika was attempting to lay down a scrifice bunt. The second came on a successful squeeze play by Eric Lee, followed by an error which allowed another run to score. Jason McMurray capped the scoring and gave the Maroons their seventh run on a sac fly. For the Blue Devils (25-12), Mampre led the team offensively with two hits and an RBI. On the mound, starting pitcher Tony Bakeris (7-3) last three and one-third innings and was charged with seven runs (five earned). Devon Paulsen and Blake Moe pitched the final three and two-thirds innings and shut out the Maroons. Dowling will face off against Iowa City West in a semifinals game Friday at 6 p.m.
