J.C. Hatcher tossed 6.1 shutout innings to secure Fort Dodge’s 4-2 win over Cedar Rapids Kennedy in the 4A semifinals at Principal Park on Friday night. The first three and a half innings went scoreless until Fort Dodge broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Austin Halligan knocked a two-run single to right with the bases loaded scoring Tyler Vaughn and Devon Harms, while advancing Coke Jarrad to third. Jarrad scored without a play on Adam Lloyd’s wild pitch and Halligan was brought in on a RBI-single off the bat of Luke VanderMaten. Cedar Rapids Kennedy did not go quietly, producing a two-run rally with two outs in their final attempt. Cody Bell singled to left to score Ben Sass and Derek Jacobus, but the Cougars rally fell short as Josh Jahlas was tagged for the final out trying to go from first to third on the play. Tommy Halligan went 2-for-3 and Austin Halligan went 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs for Fort Dodge. Hatcher improved to 6-0 on the season. Cougar starter Adam Lloyd (9-2) allowed all four runs on eight hits through 3.1 innings in suffering the loss. Fort Dodge will face top-seeded Ankeny in the 4A state championship at Principal Park on Saturday at 8 p.m. Iowa Prep Sports: Kennedy falls to Fort Dodge. Again
